Maps developed in this project for a class at Western Washington University focused on the idea of projections and distortions that can be created when the correct projection is not chosen. It also focused on distance distortion that different projections may cause.

A distance analysis was conducted on Yellowstone National Park and what would happen if it were to erupt. The analysis determined the cities and towns that would be directly effected by the ash fall from Yellowstone, if not something more serious. The ash fall zone was determined to be a 500 kilometer buffer around the Yellowstone Caldera.

In addition to the map above, the analysis from the second map also focused on projections and distance distortions. A tool called "Create Thiessen Polygons" was used to determine which areas of the United States are the closest to National Parks within the U.S.
